How Sohma works

Care that begins with being heard.

From the first call to the visits stretching out, here’s what happens at Sohma House. No referral needed. Face to face in Cairns, or Australia-wide by telehealth.

Free, 10–15 minutes by phone, for anyone new to Sohma. It helps you choose an appointment; it isn’t a clinical assessment.

What happens

Five steps, start to finish.

Every first appointment has its fee and length on the pricing page, so you know both before you book.

See the fees
  1. Choose where to start.

Book a first appointment yourself, or book a free call and let one of our nurses match you with the right one. There’s no referral needed.

  2. Tell us before you come.

When you book, we send a secure intake form: your history, your medicines and what you’d like to change. Bring what you already have, like results, letters and a list of your medicines and supplements. You don’t need new tests to prepare.

  3. Tell the whole story.

First appointments run 30 to 90 minutes, face to face at the house in Manunda or by telehealth. You’ll see one of our nurses or our nurse practitioner, with a doctor alongside when you need one.

  4. Leave with a plan.

A written plan with your next steps, kept in your shared Sohma record so everyone looking after you works from it. Any test is explained and priced before it’s ordered.

  5. We stay in touch.

Follow-up appointments, and nurse check-ins between them at no charge. As things settle, the visits stretch out. The goal is that you stop needing us.

Who you’ll see

Nurses first, with a doctor alongside.

Everyone works from one shared record, so your story travels with you instead of you carrying it.

Registered nurses

They take the free call and the first appointments on the Alternative Medicine Pathway, and they check in between visits.

Our nurse practitioner

Leads the 90-minute Functional & Integrative Medicine Assessment, for when there’s a lot of history to bring together.

Our GPs

Work alongside the nurses and the nurse practitioner, on the same record, when your care needs a doctor.

Questions

Before you book.

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book any first appointment yourself.
Can I see you by telehealth?
Yes, anywhere in Australia, by phone or video. For the Functional & Integrative Medicine Assessment, in person is preferred.
Will Medicare cover it?
Medicare rebates may apply, and they’re generally better for face-to-face visits: telehealth rebates usually need one face-to-face visit with us in the past 12 months. Reception can confirm your expected rebate and out-of-pocket cost before you book, by phone or in person. Cameron’s consultations don’t attract a Medicare rebate.
What if I don’t have my records?
Bring what you have. We can request your records from your GP with your consent.
