Chronic fatigue · Cairns & Australia-wide
Chronic fatigue in Cairns.
You sleep a full night and wake up tired, and the bloods came back normal. Fatigue that lasts is rarely one broken part; it’s usually a pattern, and it deserves time. In the clinic in Manunda, or Australia-wide by telehealth.
Free, 10–15 minutes by phone, for anyone new to Sohma. It helps you choose an appointment; it isn’t a clinical assessment.
The frustration
Exhausted, but the tests came back normal.
A standard panel is built to answer a narrow question: has a marker crossed into clear disease? A result can sit inside the normal range while you still don’t feel like yourself, and a panel that checks each part alone can miss how they interact.
Tiredness that lasts is usually several things pulling on each other: sleep, stress, iron and other stores, hormonal change, the gut, the tail of an old infection. The work is finding out which combination is yours.
Telling them apart
Tired, burnt out, or something else?
- Tiredness
- Eases with rest, a good week or a holiday.
- Burnout
- Builds with load, and eases, at least somewhat, when the load lifts.
- Chronic fatigue
- Rest doesn’t reliably fix it. Many people notice a crash in the day or two after activity that felt manageable at the time.
- Post-viral fatigue
- Exhaustion that lingers long after an infection has cleared, such as glandular fever or COVID.
How we look at it
Your timeline, not just today’s result.
The whole timeline
When it started, what changed around then, and how your body has responded to exertion since.
The pieces together
Sleep, stress, iron and other stores, hormones and the gut, read together rather than one at a time.
Tests only when they’re useful
Bring the results you already have. Any further test is explained and priced before it’s ordered, and only suggested when it could change your plan.
Worth knowing
When to see a doctor first.
Fatigue that has lasted six months or more, or keeps coming back, is worth a proper look. Some things need prompt attention first, through your GP or, if it’s urgent, emergency care.
- Unexplained weight loss
- Drenching night sweats
- New or severe breathlessness
- Chest pain
- Fainting
- A marked change in mood or thinking
In an emergency, call 000.

How Sohma worksQuestions
Before you book.
- Why am I tired even after a full night’s sleep?
- Because the amount of sleep isn’t the same as its quality, and lasting tiredness is usually several things at once: a sleep problem such as sleep apnoea, stress, iron and other stores, hormonal change, blood sugar, or the tail of an old infection. An unhurried assessment is about finding out which combination is yours.
- Why do I feel exhausted when my blood tests are normal?
- A standard panel checks whether a marker has crossed into clear disease. A result can sit inside the normal range while you still don’t feel right, and each part checked alone can miss how they interact. That gap is where we start, with an approach rather than a promise.
- What is post-viral fatigue?
- Exhaustion that lingers after an infection has cleared. Glandular fever is a classic trigger, and COVID sits in the same category. It’s the kind of slow, whole-body picture a longer appointment is built to map, by working through your timeline.
- How long should fatigue last before I see a doctor?
- As a rough guide, tiredness that has lasted six months or more, or keeps coming back, is worth a proper look. Sooner if it comes with unexplained weight loss, night sweats, new breathlessness, chest pain, fainting or a marked change in mood or thinking: see your GP or urgent care first.
- Do I need a referral?
- No. You can book yourself, or start with a free 10–15 minute call with one of our nurses, who’ll help you choose an appointment. The call isn’t a clinical assessment.
- What does it cost?
- The Functional & Integrative Medicine Assessment is $299 for 60 minutes, or $399 for 90. Medicare rebates may apply, and they’re generally better face to face; reception can confirm your expected rebate and out-of-pocket cost before you book.
- Can I see you by telehealth?
- Yes, anywhere in Australia, by phone or video, with the same team and the same shared record. The fee is the same, though Medicare rebates for telehealth usually need one face-to-face visit with us in the past 12 months. For the assessment, in person is preferred.
